A Leeds man who set up a successful online prize business from home, is giving back to the community as well as putting smiles on the faces of winners.

James Jenkinson, from Leeds, is one of those winners and he was able to drive away in a brand-new Audi A3 straight out of the Leeds Audi showroom, after entering one of All Star Prizes competitions for only 99p.

James and his partner were invited to Leeds Audi and welcomed by sales executive John Hove. They were given five-star treatment at the showroom, where their shiny new vehicle was under wraps – only when the covers were removed did James know what a prestige prize he’d won.

Matthew told the Yorkshire Post: “James said ‘I never win anything, it couldn’t have come at a better time’.” James told Matthew he had had a tough time after the recent illness of one of his children.

Matthew himself is no stranger to tough times. The former soldier in the Royal Dragoon Guards lost his home after separating from the mother of his two children. After months of sofa surfing he was eventually given a flat in Leeds and set about building up a business in signage.

All was going well until Covid struck and demand fell. Undeterred he set up a business selling small items such as pens, tote bags, key rings and the like all featuring the hashtag #IMPROUD – in recognition of support for NHS workers during the pandemic. He says half his profits were given to NHS charities.

Who are All Star Prizes?

All Star Prizes was founded by veteran Matthew Colley, and Simon Johnson.

It is based in Leeds and gives people the opportunity to win prizes such as cars, cash, motorbikes and electronics with competition entries from just 99p.

All entrants have to answer a skills-based question to be in with a chance of winning. The first ever prize was £50 worth of Easter Eggs, but now Matthew says All Star has given away over £2,000,000 in prizes, and has also given money back to worthy causes in the community.

All Star Prizes gave six Apple iPad’s to Ward 31 Children’s Oncology at Christmas in partnership with Candlelighters, they have given £2,000 of Furniture to the Getaway Girls DIY SOS Big Build, and helped Penny Field School to the tune of £2,500 for a memorial garden for six children who sadly passed away, and the company has also helped a number of families across Yorkshire going through cancer treatment with their children.

Typically, you spend 99p to enter a raffle to see if you can win. Matthew said: "We had an idea to be able to give just your average working class family the opportunity to win life changing prizes for a small amount."

He added: "Believe it or not, our first ever competition was Easter Eggs and the competition that we are running now is for a £90,000 prize pot where the end prize is a brand new Audi A3 Saloon."

Matthew is also continuing to give back to the community in other ways, he donated more than £1,000 of furniture to DIY SOS and has worked closely with Martin House Children's Hospice.
