Decision that led to success of Ebuyer

Ebuyer began life in a garage in Rotherham in 2000. It is now one of the best examples of a retailer that has used technology to gain market share.

The company, founded by former Plusnet Technologies co-founder Paul Cusack, is one of the UK’s largest resellers of TVs, laptops and cameras in the UK.

Mr Cusack said he wanted to create an online technology products retailer that could outperform its lumbering high cost ‘bricks and mortar’ rivals.

“Our aim was to automate everything we could,” said Mr Cusack.

“We did this when our competition struggled, because we had written our own order management system from scratch and this allowed us to automate many of the tasks that required a human in other businesses.”

The company now sells over 19,000 products, including desktops, notebooks, printers, digital cameras, software, LCD TVs and MP3 players.

Mr Cusack said a major element of the business’s success was the decision to write its own computer system.
