DML Group completes £820,000 London project

The Leeds-based company, which celebrated its 90th anniversary last year, produces shop fronts and external facades for some of the UK’s largest contractors and brands.

DML was appointed to work on the 1-8 Broadway redevelopment in Ealing by the scheme’s main contractor, Knight Harwood.

The 99,000 sq ft retail scheme saw 27 small retail units being replaced with three stores – Morrisons, TK Maxx and McDonald’s.

DML designed, manufactured and supplied the main façade on Ealing Broadway.

The company also provided shop fronts for the second street entrances of the redevelopment, based on Springbridge Road.

The works incorporated steel curtain wall screens, double-glazing and automatic doors, along with terracotta tiling and specially-designed aluminium extrusions.

DML Group has two divisions: Drawn Metal, which provides bespoke metalwork and shopfronts; and DML Architectural Systems, which supplies some of the UK’s largest contractors with external aluminium façades, cladding, windows and walling products.

DML was founded as Drawn Metal in Bramley, Leeds, in 1924. The business was initially launched with 200 £1 shares.

Ninety years later, DML has grown to almost £10m turnover and employs 64 people at its Swinnow Lane site.

The firm has manufactured products for Leeds’ flagship Trinity shopping centre to the Assembly buildings at the Scottish Parliament, as well as the 1992 Barcelona Games and one of the Sultan of Brunei’s palaces.

DML’s work can be seen across the capital, including at the O2 in Greenwich and along Regent Street, where most of the bronze shopfronts were created by DML.
