Fancy way to make a living

At the age of 16, Laura Davies first decided she wanted to set up a fancy dress shop.

A decade later, having completed her studies and worked as a stage manager for the Welsh National Opera, Miss Davies says she is seeing her business idea go “from strength to strength”. CopyCat Costumes and Fancy Dress, which she set up in 2011 and runs from her home in Barnsley, provides costumes, fancy dress, wigs, accessories and decorations.

Miss Davies said it has “a strong online presence”, but she is keen to set up a shop on the outskirts of Barnsley too.

The business has worked with groups such as Radisson Hotels and Butlins, as well as supplying consumers. Miss Davies said: “We are also building up our list of regular customers in entertainers and businesses who require constant supplies from us for regular themed events they schedule.” The firm will be helping to provide zombie costumes for the Barnsley Hospital Charity Zombie Run later this year.
