Former Peacocks head to take on role at Morrisons

Morrisons has appointed the former head of budget retailer Peacocks to spearhead its expansion into clothing.

The Bradford-based supermarket chain, which has lagged rivals such as Leeds-based Asda when it comes to fashion, has hired former Peacocks managing director Tim Bettley as commercial director for clothing.

He will be responsible for expanding Morrisons’ clothing range and is understood to be working on a new Morrisons fashion line.

Mr Bettley has previous experience working for Morrisons as Peacocks has concessions in three Morrisons stores and 20 stores carry Peacocks children’s ranges.

“We are extending our existing clothing offering with our partners, Peacocks, and to manage this have brought Tim in as category director, clothing,” the company said.

Morrisons is expected to outline its plans at its annual results in the City this morning.
