The Leeds-based company secured the contract with BAM Construction as part of the development of the school on the former Don Valley Stadium site in Sheffield, which will offer 1,200 places for children.

G&H Building Services will create a passive ventilation system in classrooms and rainwater harvesting to increase sustainability levels and connect to a district heating scheme being developed by E.ON.

The new school will see £13.4m provided by central government grant and £3.3m from Sheffield Council’s capital schools budget.

Graham Kelly, managing director at G&H Building Services, said: “It will be a state-of-the-art facility that is aiming to receive a BREAAM ‘very good’ accreditation and our work will play a major part in this, showcasing best practice in the way it operates.”

G&H Building Services will start on-site in January. The school will open in September 2015.

Sheffield City Council said it will meet high demand for new pupil places in the surrounding area.
