Gluten Free Foods nets deal with Amazon

AMAZON has chosen a small family firm from North Yorkshire to be a major supplier of gluten and wheat free foods for its new online UK grocery store.

It is the latest in a string of successes for former chef Sally

Allister and her husband Stuart, who founded their Gluten Free Foods Direct business near Selby six years ago.

In the last 12 months, the company has won contracts to supply products for selected Asda stores and Budgeon supermarkets across the country.

Mrs Allister said: "We set up the business when I was diagnosed as being a coeliac, which means I have to follow a strict gluten free diet for the rest of my life.

"We couldn't believe how difficult it was to find the foods I needed

and we had to travel for miles to different supermarkets and health food shops just to buy the basics."

Sally's husband Stuart, an IT consultant, created a small website stocking a range of 90 products which they ran from their spare bedroom. The couple also set up a tiny shop which they opened every second weekend of each month. Annual turnover is now just under 200,000.

Gluten Free Foods Direct offers a range of more than 500 frozen and ambient products through its website www.gffdirect.co.uk
