Guest & Philips: Famous Beverley jewellers celebrates 60th anniversary
When Mike and Anne Guest opened their family jewellers in Beverley, England had just won the World Cup and Labour Prime Minister Harold Wilson was in office.
This month the business is celebrating 60 years of craftsmanship, community service and family tradition. The business – originally known as Michael Philips – expanded over the years and opened other branches in East Yorkshire. The Guest’s children, Philip and Karen, joined the business 46 years ago.
They took over the reins and the name changed to Guest & Philips. Karen Guest is a diamond and gemstone specialist and leads the antique and pre‑loved jewellery department. Her brother Philip leads the modern jewellery and watch collection.
Mr Guest said: “It’s so rare to see a family business trading after 60 years. Social media tributes have highlighted just how deeply rooted the business is in local memory, including customers reminiscing about buying their wedding rings from my parents shortly after they opened the shop in Beverley.”
