Huddersfield Giants: Majestic Construction appointed to support £10m Flair Stadium transformation

A construction company is playing a major role in transforming a Yorkshire stadium into a venue capable of hosting Super League rugby.

Majestic Construction has been appointed by Huddersfield Giants to support the redevelopment of the Flair Stadium in Dewsbury, as the rugby league club prepares for a new chapter from the start of the 2027 Super League season.

A spokesman said: “The appointment will see Majestic play a key role in overseeing the relationship between Huddersfield Giants, as client, and principal contractor Marshall Construction, helping to coordinate the partnership and ensure the stadium redevelopment delivers the facilities required for Super League rugby.”

The spokesman said the Giants are investing more than £10m in transforming the existing stadium into a venue capable of accommodating larger crowds and “delivering an improved experience for supporters, players, hospitality guests and the media”.

The redevelopment will include a refurbishment of the existing facilities, alongside the construction of a new stand at the open end of the stadium. Capacity is planned to increase from 5,000 to around 8,000 spectators, including between 2,500 and 3,000 seated spectators, with the potential for further expansion to 12,000 spectators in the future.

The spokesman said a “substantial programme of work” is required to bring the stadium up to the standards expected of a Super League venue. This includes extending the playing surface, upgrading floodlighting, providing additional changing rooms and testing facilities, installing television gantries and viewing platforms, improving media and visiting-team facilities.

Lee Marsden, Owner and Operator of Majestic Construction, said:

“This is a hugely exciting project to be involved in, and one that comes with significant responsibility. Transforming an existing stadium into a venue fit for Super League rugby involves a complex programme of work, so having strong communication and coordination between everyone involved will be absolutely critical.

“Our role is to work closely with Huddersfield Giants and Marshall Construction to help ensure the project runs smoothly, challenges are managed effectively, and the club's vision is delivered. Ultimately, it's about creating a stadium that the Giants can be proud of and that provides a fantastic experience for supporters for years to come.”

Ralph Rimmer, Executive Chairman at Huddersfield Giants, said:

“Lee has a huge wealth of knowledge in stadium construction, so we felt it was essential to engage his expertise.”
