Initiative aims to inspire students to look at different career opportunities

A work initiative aimed at hundreds of students in Bradford is hoping to double its numbers this year.

Work Inspiration Week 2014 wants to encourage young people across the Bradford District to consider the different career options available to them. Last year was the first event of its kind.

Now E3 Bradford, a partnership between business, education providers, Bradford Chamber and Bradford Council, wants to sign up 30 local employers and 500 students.

Already registered are Barclays Bank, Rex Procter & Partners, Premier Inn, Incommunities, the Midland Hotel, Borg Warner, and Arnold Laver. Up to 15 schools and colleges are expected to take part.

Businesses are required to devote a few hours to creating a calendar of activities for the students. Employers can choose to give a tour of their workplace, a presentation, a Q&A session or a practical demonstration. E3 Bradford asks firms to introduce students to the world of work and highlight the different options open to them in the future. Companies who are interested in registering for the scheme must do so before the end of the month.

Paul Knowles, assistant branch manager at Barclays, Bradford said: “The whole team at Barclays are looking forward to welcoming the students at this year’s Work Inspiration Week. We took part last year and found it to be a rewarding experience for everyone involved.

“We’re hoping that many of our customers will sign up for this year’s event because it’s a great way of spotting new talent, getting fresh ideas for your business, making a positive contribution to the local economy and helping to inspire young people.”

Work Inspiration Week runs from April 7-11. For more information go to www.e3bradford.co.uk
