If the signs were good for John Hastie’s business back in 1999, they’re even better now.

John, who runs Covertech PVC Covers, Banners and Displays in Farsley, near Leeds left mining engineering looking for a new start and hit upon the idea of making PVC covers for industrial use.

The business has proved to be a successful and reliable venture. Now that John approaching retirement, John is looking to hand over the reins of the business to new owners. And he believes Covertech can grow to go on to even bigger and better things.

“I’m nearly 60 now and I’ve never been very interested in social media or having a sophisticated website, but the opportunities are there for anyone who wants to develop that side of the business to really make something of it,” said John.

In the early days it was an industry still very much reliant on traditional methods and John developed the skills he needed to make his business a success – combining this expertise over the years with advancements in technology to offer a service that covers everything from a small PVC insert for a light box to large-scale building wraps, marketing displays and sports covers.

He said: “When I started, things were done more manually. I’d have to travel to customers to talk to them about designs and what ideas they had for artwork. These days you can do everything electronically and the scope is there to have a website where people can just download plans and you work from them – there’s a lot of scope for the right person.”

Covertech is being marketed through Ernest Wilson & Co Business Agents in Leeds and currently has two capable members of staff, in addition to John, who are fully versed in the processes, and sale price includes a wealth of quality plant, fixtures and fittings.

The Farsley building is available to a new owner subject to landlord checks although it could be easily relocated should that be preferable.

John Hastie said: “We’ve been in the black since we started nearly 20 years ago and there’s no reason why the business shouldn’t carry on successfully for many more years to come.”

Established in 1956, Ernest Wilson Business Agents assists clients with the purchase and sale of businesses, offering agency services, finance options and support throughout the sale process.
