Investment saves tour company jobs

More than 60 jobs have been saved at one of Yorkshire’s oldest travel companies after it secured a substantial investment.

Eddie Brown Tours, which was established in 1949 and provides coach hire, school and college
bus services, excursions and holidays, called in KPMG’s restructuring team to look at options for
securing the future of the business.

The second-generation family firm is led by director Deirdre Brown and houses a fleet of 50 vehicles at its base in Wetherby.

After rapidly marketing the company, KPMG said it secured substantial investment for the company from an un-named investor. It said the deal had safeguarded over 1,500 booked excursions and travel partnerships for a number of schools, including Leeds Grammar School.

KPMG director Gareth Harris said: “After experiencing some financial and operational challenges over the difficult winter period, we are very pleased to have identified a suitable investor to provide significant funds for investment and help move the business forward.”
