Johnston appoints digital pioneer

THE publisher of the Yorkshire Post has appointed a digital media pioneer from the United States to help deliver its growth plans.

Jeff Moriarty is vice president of digital products for The Boston Globe and designed and developed one of the most successful regional subscription-based sites in the US, Boston.com.

He spent much of his career at The New York Times Company and launched its earliest regional websites.

Mr Moriarty has built niche digital products including Winetoday.com on California wines and later Golfdigest.com for the sport’s top magazine.

He will join Johnston Press in April as chief digital and product officer.

Ashley Highfield, chief executive, said: “Jeff is an outstanding candidate and the knowledge, experience, insight and innovation that he will bring to Johnston Press will help us forge ahead with our ambitious growth plans.”

Digital revenues now account for 20 per cent of overall advertising revenues in many parts of the group’s portfolio, added Mr Highfield.
