This is the 16th annual 50+ Festival organised by the York Older People’s Assembly, with hopes high for a spectacular comeback after Covid temporarily suspended play last year.

The festival offers an exciting mix of events in person, online, or both – and among the programme of 82 events are two online Q&A sessions hosted by Sue Hogston, care transformation lead and head of residential and nursing care for Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust Care Services.

Entitled “JRHT Care Services - We show we care: care homes for older adults”, the sessions will discuss the options and processes available when researching care if an elderly relative or friend needs help.

The online Q&As will take place on Friday, October 1, from 7pm to 8.30pm and on Saturday, October 2, from 10am to 11.30am.

JRHT offers innovative care services as part of the trust's wider aim to provide housing for all ages and abilities in supportive communities. Their person-centred approach means that services are tailored to the individual according to their needs, and covers everything from home help to 24-hour nursing care.

"We are proud of our care provision, and being part of the Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust," says Sue.

"We continually strive for quality improvement, and we look forward to sharing some of our insights from the Joseph Rowntree Foundation and Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust at these two sessions as part of the festival."

JRHT care communities in York include New Lodge, a registered care home in the thriving JRHT mixed-income community of New Earswick, and Lamel Beeches, which provides bespoke residential and nursing care south of the city walls. The Oaks care home offers care facilities in the centre of Hartrigg Oaks, plus a vibrant, continuing care retirement community for the over-60s to remain independent and live life to the full.

Bedford Court is in Horsforth, Leeds. It is a modern purpose-built integrated care community offering a choice of accommodation and level of support. Olive Lodge is a registered residential care home with a range of en-suite accommodation. Phillips Close is next to Olive Lodge, and is comprised of ten two-bedroom cottages, each with a private garden.
