What’s the biggest development you’ve seen in the legal world during your career?

As a corporate recovery and restructuring lawyer, it has to be The Enterprise Act 2002 and, in particular, the changes which made so called ‘pre-pack’ administrations more readily available.

Whilst the pre-pack administration sometimes get bad press, it has in fact proved to be an extremely useful tool in rescuing businesses in financial distress.

What is the most exciting work you’ve ever done?

Acting on various Rugby League club administrations over the years – renegotiating players’ contracts and payment terms for a group of pro rugby league players always makes life interesting!

Who in the legal world do you most admire?

Michael Mansfield QC for promoting access to justice by backing the underdog and taking on the establishment.

What advice would you give someone starting out in the profession?

Be inquisitive and spend time getting to really know your clients. With a profession that is likely to go through significant change in the coming years, a willingness to adapt and embrace change will also be key to a successful career.
