Meadowhall Shopping Centre: Inconvenience for shoppers as power cut causes blackout at shopping centre

Shoppers were inconvenienced last night (Dec 15) when a power cut caused confusion at Meadowhall Shopping Centre.

The Sheffield centre was busy as shoppers continue to prepare for Christmas, but a power cut caused some shops to close for a short period on Thursday.

The power cut happened at around 7.30pm and lasted for about 90 minutes, one shopper said. Pictures sent in to The Yorkshire Post show shoppers standing around looking confused as shops such as Ernest Jones, Reiss and All Saints were left in total darkness.

Power to some stores on the Arcade and Park Lane was disrupted, but the majority of the stores and the common areas of the malls were unaffected.

The outage was caused by a Yorkshire Electricity Board network issue and the issue was resolved by the electricity board.
