My Investments

What was your best investment?

The development of a strong team, not afraid to offer something different to what already exists in the marketplace. The right people are by far any organisation’s greatest asset and certainly my best investment.

Are wise investors born or made?

Made. I believe that if you follow a structured plan the returns you make can be astronomical, regardless of who you are.

Do you believe it’s become harder for entrepreneurs to make prudent investments since the crash of 2008?

Yes because investment often requires capital, which isn’t always readily available, however on the flip-side, I believe you can create your own capital through systematic profit generation.

What’s the worst investment you’ve ever made?

Stocks and shares. When I was 18 I held out to make a 1000 per cent gain, but it peaked at 941 per cent and crashed. I still own the shares and am running at a 72 per cent loss.

What advice would you give to entrepreneurs looking to make a major investment?

Do your due diligence, and do it well. It may be costly in terms of time and money but priceless in making the right decisions.

Which sectors are likely to offer handsome returns for business investors?

Property will always offer a good investment if you know the market and the price to pay.

Are there any sectors you feel should be avoided?

Any market you are not completely comfortable in.

What lessons did you learn from your worst investment?

Take advice from the professionals. They are experts for a reason and almost certainly know more than you. Use them to your advantage.

What was the best piece of investment advice you’ve received?

True profit is a consequence of systematic and repeatable actions. Anything else is simply good luck, not good judgement.
