What was your best investment?Without a doubt an investment in time. When under pressure it’s easy to think we’re too busy to take time out to further our learning, but the business environment is changing so rapidly, we can’t sit still. In my sector, it’s crucial to continually develop my technical knowledge and skill.

Are wise investors born or made?

Investing is like a sport – there are some people born to invest, who quickly find themselves in the Premier League or competing at the Olympics.

But there are also people who work hard at it – their successes may not be as large-scale, but they can still do well and feel happy with their achievements.

Do you believe it’s become harder for entrepreneurs to make prudent investments since the crash of 2008?

Perhaps initially, but in recent years some fantastic initiatives have been introduced to support businesses and entrepreneurs in making continued progress.

Savvy investors have just been a little more innovative to get hold of the cash they require.

What’s the worst investment you’ve ever made?

I’m naturally a very analytical person with a measured approach to risk taking so thankfully I’ve not had any real catastrophes.

My foolish mistakes tend to be rushed minor purchases, such as some awful cheap desks I bought online for our home office. They’re now just cluttering our spare room waiting to go on eBay!

What advice would you give to entrepreneurs looking to make a major investment?

Investigate thoroughly – yes the internet provides a great platform for initial research but, once you’re more familiar with the market, you must speak to people who’ve lived and breathed that sector already.

I think we should all be humble and ask for help when we need it.
