What are the prospects for the property sector in Yorkshire?

It’s a busy time and my clients are continuing to ask for advice on sites and development potential for projects across the region.

We have also started to see the more speculative developments re-emerge as investors and developers gain more confidence in the marketplace again.

What is the best project you have been involved in?

My favourite to date is the conversion of the historic Leeds Girls High School site in Headingley, Leeds.

As project architect I am proud to have been involved in delivering much needed family homes to the city centre suburb, and to lead the design in creating a contemporary take on the traditional Leeds town house.

What is your favourite building in the region and why?

A building that I was fortunate enough to grow up close to was Heathcote in Ilkley.

Completed in 1908 and designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens, it is a testament to the architect’s vision and creativity.

At the other end of the spectrum is the Double Tree Hotel in Granary Wharf, Leeds. This was being built during my time at university and was one of the first contemporary designs in the Leeds skyline that made me stop and take note.

If you could change one thing to improve the property industry in this region, what would it be?

As a region, I feel we are making great strides getting our name on the map and have achieved the recognition we deserve with high profile projects such as Trinity, Victoria Gate and The Broadway.

Improvements in transport, confidence to push good design, and continued investment in the sector, are all important factors that are needed for our region to continue growing and thriving.

Whom do you most admire in property in Yorkshire?

I admire anyone that follows their dreams, puts in the hard work and is willing to help and inspire those just starting out in the industry.
