Things are looking positive. The cranes are back in force and the region is becoming increasingly attractive to investors who may have previously focused on London. Leeds in particular has regained the vibrancy and optimism that had faded in recent years.

What’s the best project you’ve been involved in?

The £6m redevelopment of Castleford Bus Station which opened in February. It is a striking and modern transport hub used by 12,000 people a day and it is rewarding to think that I played a small part in making that happen.

We are lucky to have some wonderful buildings across the region, both historic and contemporary. My favourite however is the majestic Harewood House, which quite rightly featured prominently in the Grand Depart of the Tour de France in 2014. Whom has inspired you?

I am inspired by those who show true entrepreneurial spirit – take risks, push boundaries and think outside the box. I am huge fan of Richard Branson. He is a true pioneer, fearless and I like the spirit of adventure and fun he brings into his business and life.
