The Yorkshire property sector is going through somewhat of a resurgence at present, and proposed new build developments in Leeds city centre and the surrounding area, indicate that Yorkshire is again attracting high profile clients to invest.

What is your favourite building in the region and why?

Having been brought up in Hull, my favourite structure is the Humber Bridge. Whilst not being a building, it is an iconic symbol of the East Yorkshire area. I can remember the first time I travelled over the bridge as a young boy being dwarfed by the massive tower structures and web of supporting tendons, wondering how they would have built it. I’m sure it was this initial thought that made me want to get into the construction industry.

If you could change one thing to improve the property industry in this region, what would it be?

The key to a thriving industry is to ensure that staff are well trained, well paid and are enthused with the work that they are involved in.

Whom do you most admire in property in Yorkshire?

I admire the type of person who has worked hard to succeed in industry, whether that be an entrepreneur or a junior who has worked their way up to high levels in a company. Each person has had their own battles at one time or another, and the fact that they have come through them and are still successful is commendable.

What is the best project you have been involved in?

The best project would have to be one I am currently involved with at Weetwood Hall in Leeds. I had my wedding reception there and as structural engineer, I now have the task of working on the design of their new restaurant and bar areas. It’s brought back a lot of great memories and I plan to take my wife there to celebrate our 15th anniversary when it’s all completed.
