Demand is definitely getting stronger. You only have to walk around the region’s major commercial centres, and see the number of new developments, to know that the property sector is feeling much more confident. Some sectors and locations are performing better than others but generally things are on the up.

The increase in investment interest is particularly encouraging and it’s not just interest from UK-based funds, international corporations are getting involved in the region too.

The work I did helping a local and extremely well established tennis and squash club raise funds to facilitate its ambitious expansion plans. I’ve been getting more and more involved with ethically funded schemes like theirs which I really enjoy. The project was particularly satisfying to work on because the club is highly community-focused and steeped in history.

What is your favourite building in the region and why?

The Piece Hall. I’ve got to be loyal to my home town. There are some impressive new structures going up around Yorkshire but I doubt many will stand the test of time as effectively as the older historical buildings have.

If you could change one thing to improve the property sector in this region, what would it be?

I’d like to see a fresh approach to public transport provision for Yorkshire. Better public transport would not only ease the flow of people in and out of the city but would bring increased prosperity to the surrounding districts too. We need more trains, additional buses and bus stops and a tram system; getting around Yorkshire shouldn’t be such a challenge.

I’ve learnt a lot from the people I’ve worked with and for over the years but it’s my family and closest friends who enthuse and motivate me. As I get older I’m starting to appreciate the morals and disciplines my parents instilled in me more and more; I think family values are really important.
