The prospects are bright. As a capital allowances consultant I speak to a wide range of professionals across a wide range of sectors. They are all very busy and most share my optimism.

What is the best project you have been involved in?

It’s so hard to choose because I’ve been very fortunate to have worked on a huge variety of really great projects ranging from letting shops at £25 per week in the early part of my career through to funding multimillion pound developments.

What is your favourite building in the region and why?

The new learning resources centre at Hymers College in Hull. It is at the very heart of the school surrounded by historic buildings. Its clear simple lines provide a striking contrast to the grade two listed main hall opposite built in 1893 in Jacobean revival style.

If you could change one thing to improve the property industry in this region, what would it be?

I would like to change the perception of capital allowances. They are a legitimate form of tax relief designed to encourage investment. I’ve been involved in the property sector in Yorkshire for over 20 years and know only too well that very many businesses and individuals don’t make the most of this hugely beneficial form of tax relief.

Who has inspired you?

The amazing visually impaired skier Kelly Gallagher who won a gold medal with her guide Charlotte Evans at the Sochi Winter Paralympics. It is awe inspiring just to think of the courage and skill required to ski at speeds of up to 60mph without being able to see clearly, let alone contemplate the incredible bond of trust between the two ladies.
