Their union Unison said 74 clerical staff had received redundancy notices and invitations to re-apply for their jobs.

Workers at Pinderfields, Dewsbury and Pontefract hospitals voted unanimously for the industrial action after talks with management broke down last week. This week’s action follows several walk-outs last year. Staff face pay cuts of up to £2,800 a year, the union claimed.

Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust needs to make savings of £24m by April.

The trust said it had made three revised offers to staff in an effort to end the dispute.
