Surgical Innovations appoints US surgeon

KEYHOLE surgery specialist Surgical Innovations has appointed a US surgeon to its international clinical advisory board.

The Leeds-based firm said paediatric and thoracic surgeon Sean Barnett, who specialises core trauma and bariatric surgery, had been appointed to the ICAB with immediate effect.

He graduated from the University of Purdue, Indiana, in 1993 and currently works for one of the largest children’s hospital in the US, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Centre.

Surgical Innovations said it is looking to penetrate the paediatric market this coming year with an advanced range of innovative 3mm laparoscopic devices, aimed at all areas of general surgery and especially minimally invasive surgery in children.

Graham Bowland, chief executive for Surgical Innovations, said Mr Barnett’s expertise in paediatric surgery will help the firm focus in this specialist area.
