Tissuemed seals deal with US giant

MEDICAL device company Tissuemed has signed an exclusive distribution agreement for its artificial self-adhesive film with one of the largest medical technology companies in the world.

The Leeds-based firm, which researches, develops, designs and manufactures medical products based on adhesive polymer technology, will work in collaboration with US-based Medtronic, which will distribute the Obex NeuroFilm Cerebrospinal Fluid Barrier in markets outside the US.

The product is used as a self-adhesive barrier to prevent cerebrospinal fluid leaks following neurosurgery.

Medtronic will sell the product through its direct operations and partners in most of Europe as well as other key markets.

Nick Woods, chief executive of Tissuemed, said: "Going forward working with Medtronic means they can address what is currently a poorly met surgical need with a technology-based solution.

"We can focus our activities on both supporting that activity with new and exciting developments."

Mark Fletcher, of Medtronic, added: "The Obex NeuroFilm product is an important strategic addition to our industry-leading portfolio of products for neurosurgeons."
