Tribute to Wensleydale Creamery managing director David Hartley after death at 58
The Yorkshire Dales cheese business has confirmed that Mr Hartley, who had cancer, died on Wednesday.
In a statement, the Creamery said: "It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David Hartley, Managing Director, Wensleydale Dairy Products Ltd.

Hide Ad"David passed away on 2nd December 2020 following a year-long battle with cancer.
"Ill health meant that David, 58, had been away from the business for this past year, and he will be sadly missed by all."
The statement said that "devoted" Mr Hartley, who is survived by his wife and two daughters among other family, was "instrumental" in the company's management buyout which saved the Creamery in 1992.
In May that year, Dairy Crest initially closed the Creamery, with the loss of 59 jobs.

Hide AdIt has since grown to have a turnover of £27m, according to its website, while employing more than 200 staff and contributing £12m to the local economy.
The statement continues: "Over the past 28 years, under (Mr Hartley's) direction, the business became an integral part of the local community, with coveted recognition for its award-winning range of cheeses.
"Alongside the management team, David cemented Yorkshire Wensleydale cheese as a household favourite, both in the UK and internationally.
"Each and every day he injected passion, quality and enthusiasm into both his business and personal life.

"David was a devoted family man, and our thoughts are with his wife, two daughters and family, who have asked for privacy at this difficult time."
