Updated: Bradford road closed '˜after weapon fired'

Bierley Lane is closed between the Newhall Road junction and the Shetcliffe Lane junction.

Around 11.18pm last night, police were called to reports of a group of people fighting outside The Greenwood Inn pub.

Both callers mentioned a gun and a knife had been seen.

Armed officers attended but found all quiet on arrival.

No injuries were reported.

Enquiries revealed a firearm had been discharged. A vehicle was also found abandoned a short distance away.

A 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of firearms offences and remains in custody today.

The vehicle was also recovered.

Police say inquiries are at an early stage. Anyone with information which may assist the investigation is asked to contact the Homicide and Major Enquiries Team.
