Specialist furniture manufacturer Treske has expanded its premises with funding from Barclays.

The deal enabled the Thirsk-based business, which produces and installs solid-wood furniture, to build additional storage facilities, increasing capacity and cutting costs.

Treske was founded in 1973 and is owned by managing director Justin Bartlett.

The firm employs 25 staff and is expected to reach £2m turnover next year.

Treske creates bespoke solid wood furniture, including tables and chairs, handmade kitchens and bedrooms, as well as special commissions for churches.

Some of its recent projects include an altar and lectern for the chapel at the Dallas hospital where US president John F Kennedy died, as well as chairs and sanctuary furniture for St Andrew’s church in Abu Dhabi.

Wbile much of its work is specially commissioned pieces for individuals, its overseas market is growing.

Mr Bartlett said. “We’ve been steadily growing the business which continues to evolve, mixing modern technology with traditional craftsmanship to create high quality furniture.

“We’ve been extremely fortunate we have many long standing customers who are kind enough to tell their family and friends.”
