Skills for Growth is a free programme from West Yorkshire Combined Authority and Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership (LEP) that can connect your business with local schools, colleges and universities to build talent pipelines, increase productivity and help young talent thrive to close skills gaps across the region.

Available across West Yorkshire, Craven, Harrogate, Selby and York to businesses in all sectors; Skills for Growth offers free, impartial, one to one support to help you find enthusiastic talent, increase the diversity of your workforce and secure long-term partnerships with local education providers.

Over 600 businesses from across the region have already benefited from the Skills for Growth programme, with over 1,450 referrals generated to access support from partners or to work with education providers to find suitable candidates for entry level positions.

One of those business owners is Saqib Rahim-Baksh, Managing Director of Discount Clearance Company based in Bradford, who commented: “I wanted to grow my business and before working with Skills for Growth, I didn’t know how working with education could help. Thanks to the programme, I’m now working with a local school where I’ve delivered workshops to potential future employees. I think it’s important that young people have relatable role models in business, and I will continue this work to support my business’s talent pipeline.”

Skills for Growth aims to help everyone involved in the programme; the SMEs to actively develop the young talent that they need to grow, the education providers to prepare and upskill their students for specific career opportunities, and the local economy to help reduce skills gaps in key sectors.
