HOW sad (and pathetic) to read that the Ritz Hotel in London sent a lawyer’s letter to The Ritz ballroom in Brighouse telling them they can no longer use that name.

People in Leeds might remember a few years ago that Harrods, a department store in Knightsbridge, London, took out a law claim against a tiny hardware store in Leeds market which had the effrontery to call itself ‘Arrods’, dropping the ‘H’ in Yorkshire style yet using the gold and green ‘Harrods’ brand logo. Personally, I liked the good humour of it, it always made me smile when I shopped in the market. How sad that these big boys are so arrogant, high-handed and utterly devoid of any sense of humour and proportion.

Yorkshire people should refuse to frequent such places as Harrods and The Ritz (as they traditionally have done, very wisely). Not that it will make hardly any iota of difference to the over-inflated profits and sense of entitlement which these places have with their monstrous egos on parade. I recently spoke to a chap who had first-hand experience of one of these places; he said he was not in the least surprised by their high-handed attitudes. It shows these people up for what they are. A sad indictment.
