The Highland Vet secures another series after proving hit with viewers

The Highland Vet - which is produced by Leeds-based Daisybeck Studios - has been recommissioned after viewers fell in love with workers at the practice and the Scottish scenery.

The show, which is also made by Motion Content Group, told the stories of the amazing work of the vets and the lives of the animals and owners, much like the incredibly popylar The Yorkshire Vet series.

Two series were showcased last year on digital TV channel 5Select and was a smash-hit with viewers.

Just two weeks ago the first series began its premiere run on terrestrial network Channel 5 - pulling in more than a million viewers - and now it is set to go out next month in New Zealand taking a corner of Scotland to a world-wide audience.

Now Daisybeck Studios, the production company behind the show, has announced that the channel has commissioned a third series and will be filming the incredible work the vets are carrying out in difficult circumstances.

Series producer Mark McMullen, of Daisybeck Studios, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be returning to Thurso to film a brand-new series of The Highland Vet. The team at DS McGregor and Partners are working so hard to help animals across Caithness and Sutherland in unprecedented times.

"Though it is challenging from a television production perspective, Daisybeck Studios have helped design and set the ‘gold standard’ protocols for filming safely during lockdown and using our experience to document the team’s dedicated work is a real honour. We have established strict safety measures that have been adopted by the UK television industry so that we are still able to film, capture and celebrate the people at the practice, their clients and animals and this most beautiful part of the world"

Guy Gordon, director of DS McGregor and Partners, said: “We thoroughly enjoyed having the cameras with us last year and were delighted to see our clients and their animals rise to the occasion. The feedback from the local community has been overwhelmingly positive and we are confident that the next series will be as successful as the last.

"We were understandably wary of embarking on further filming until we could be certain that it would be done in a safe way in relation to COVID. The filming protocols put in place by Daisybeck Studios have allayed our fears, and the testing and isolation means the camera crew should pose practically no added risk.

"I think that documenting how we are continuing to provide veterinary services under the restrictions will prove both interesting and reassuring to the public.”
