Yorkshire farmers urged to apply for share of £25million government grant

Last year, 273 farmers from Yorkshire applied for Countryside Productivity Small Grants funding, and were awarded a total of £1.5million.

This year, the application deadline is November 4 via the Rural Payments Agency.

Each farmer can be awarded between £3-12,000 to buy new equipment, such as livestock monitoring cameras or precision technology. The purchases must helf businesses save time and costs while improving output.

The list of eligible items includes soil compaction minimising equipment, ammonia level monitors and slurry precision tools.

Farming minister Victoria Prentis said:

“Helping our farmers to boost their productivity is absolutely essential, and I’m delighted we’ve been able to make £25million in grants available to farmers to invest in the latest technology.

“Coming from a farming family, I have experienced first-hand the benefits that having innovative equipment can bring, including saving businesses time and money while improving yields and minimising the impact we have on the environment around us.

“Our landmark Agriculture Bill sets out further measures to help farmers become more productive, efficient and resilient, with specific productivity grants expected to be available from 2021.”
