Academy achievements praised

A SCHOOL which was this year named as the most improved in Yorkshire has been rated as good by Ofsted.

Barnsley Academy was praised by inspectors for strong teaching which resulted in good student achievement.

The report also highlighted intervention work for students as being effective.

The academy, which opened in 2006, sponsored by the United Learning Trust, was the most improved secondary school in the region in this year’s league tables. In four years the proportion of pupils getting five A* to C GCSEs, including English and maths, increased from 14 per cent to 55 per cent.
