Awards night to honour this year’s best in the public relations industry

WHAT’s the connection between Rabbit Awareness Week and the train conductors’ strike of 2010?

You would think very little, but both events inspired public relations campaigns that are in contention for major awards.

The Chartered Institute of Public Relations has announced the 2011 PRide Awards shortlist for Yorkshire and the Humber.

The awards highlight the wide range of PR talent in the region.

More than 40 in-house and agency teams will be battling it out at a ceremony on November 17 at the Queens Hotel in Leeds.

National brands such as Asda, the NHS and East Coast Trains are among the nominees. There are 26 Yorkshire and Lincolnshire agencies including Grayling, Golly Slater and Northern Lights vying for honours. The Outstanding Consultancy category has six nominations, with Finn, MK Things Happen, Umpf, MCG, Pelican PR and Hatch Communications battling to be crowned the region’s finest. Other major PR firms and in-house PR teams are in contention for trophies including Hatch Communications, Northern Rail, Yorkshire Water, OnTrack PR, Ventura, Bloom PR, Acceleris Communications, Lucre, Anita Morris Associates and Benenden Healthcare Society.

Deborah Copeland, the senior account director at Logistik Group and chairman of CIPR Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, said: “The CIPR PRide Awards recognise and reward the thriving PR profession.

“They help to celebrate the importance of demonstrating the value of what we, as public relations professionals, do and the positive impact this profession has on all aspects of business. 

“Despite a challenging economic environment, this year has seen outstanding results from the region’s PR and Communications industry.”

Jane Wilson, the CIPR chief executive, said: “The CIPR PRide Awards celebrate the best PR and campaigns from the profession across the UK.”

In the hotly contested outstanding young communicator category, the shortlist is: Verity Hudson, Approach PR, Jo Newbould, Asda, Rachel Barker, Cicada Communications, Chris Bennett, Finn PR, Ashlea McConnell, Irwin Mitchell, Alex Trewhitt, NHS North Yorkshire and York and Jonathan Priestley of Umpf PR.
