Leeds Met signs make way for new era

THE REBRANDING of Leeds Metropolitan University has started with Leeds Beckett signs now in place across the institution’s city centre campus.

The university does not officially change its name until September 22 when students start the new academic year.

However the Leeds Beckett name can now not only be seen on the city centre campus but was also on the shirts of Leeds Rhinos during the Challenge Cup final at the weekend and on t-shirts of volunteers from the university who were working at the recent Leeds Festival.

New signs will also be going up at the university’s man Headingley campus shortly. The university decided to change its name last year leading to a major protest by some students.

It had consulted on three alternatives: Leeds Beckett, Leeds Headingley and Leeds Ridings.

It had previously had to abandon plans to rename itself Leeds Carnegie University.
