Ripon Grammar School: Yorkshire school named best state school in the North by The Daily Telegraph
A new league table has ranked a Yorkshire school amongst the top 50 selective state schools in England.
The Daily Telegraph assessed 163 selective state schools with a points-based system. The study measured academic performance, university destinations, class sizes, and attendance.
Ripon Grammar School scored 38 out of 40 points and was the only Yorkshire school in the top 50.
In the 2024-25 academic year, 62 per cent of Ripon Grammar School students progressed to leading universities, and A Level results were above national and local averages.
The study also recognised the school’s efforts to support students in pursuing aspirations beyond the classroom.

It ranked 42nd in England and received an overall rating of ‘very good,’ which was The Daily Telegraph’s highest award.
“This result reflects the hard work and ambition of our pupils, the dedication of our staff and the support of our families,” said Jonathan Webb, headteacher at Ripon Grammar School.
“While academic achievement is hugely important, we believe a great education is about much more than examination results,” he added.
“We want every pupil to discover their strengths, embrace new opportunities and leave RGS well equipped for the next stage of their lives.”
