Ackworth School, near Pontefract, in West Yorkshire, described itself as a 'dynamic and forward-thinking' boarding and day school - providing a broad academic curriculum allowing young people to gain solid foundations and to discover and develop their talents.

It has always been a co-educational, boarding and day school. For over 240 years, it has maintained a passion for teaching and learning. It is proud of its traditions and family values, but equally proud of its innovative approach to co-education.

Leaders say the Nursery and Junior School is in the beautiful and safe setting of Coram House where it provides a nurturing introduction to school life, with the perfect blend of learning opportunities within and beyond the classroom.

"We pursue high academic and pastoral standards for children, placing importance on individualised teaching and learning. We foster enthusiasm and initiative in children and believe it is important to encourage pupils to nurture their own talents and personalities," said a spokesperson.

"It is through this that self-esteem, resilience and confidence are built.

"We nurture happy, inquisitive children who want to care about the environment and find out about the world around them.

"We don’t believe that one size fits all when it comes to an education at Ackworth. We will help your child progress at the pace most appropriate to their aptitudes, interest and abilities, steering them to the start of a bright and fulfilling future.

"Pupils leave their education well-rounded and equipped to lead a full and responsible life in the adult world, having been given the widest range of possible opportunities to grow as a person at Ackworth School. For many, this starts at Nursery and they stay with us until the end of their Sixth Form education."
