Yorkshire school shows appreciation for carers on coronavirus frontline

Pupils at Kingfisher Primary Academy in Doncaster have designed 'thank you' banners for NHS staff, which has been put on display at a property close to the Doncaster Royal Infirmary.

The banners were designed by the 14 children of parents classed as key workers during the coronavirus outbreak, attending Kingfisher Primary as a show of gratitude for NHS workers amid the crisis.

The first one reads: 'Thank you to all the NHS workers from Kingfisher Primary.'

While the second banner adds: 'Doncaster is in safe hands'.

Catherine Skinn, the head teacher at Kingfisher Primary said the school created the banners after receiving an email from local resident Sophia Jones, who lives close to Doncaster Royal Infirmary.

"Following an email... asking schools to celebrate and thank all the NHS Workers working tirelessly to keep the people of Doncaster safe, we decided to create banners from Kingfisher Primary to say thank you on behalf of all the children and staff.

“We felt this was very apt as we have many families who are key workers, going to work each day to ensure that they do their bit for Doncaster people.

"The children thoroughly enjoyed creating the images and slogans to thank the NHS workers."

Mrs Jones, who is planning to add more NHS appreciation banners to her property added: “I would like to say a very big thank you Kingfisher Academy – to the staff and the children who have not only produced beautiful banners but with such great messages!

“The response has been wonderful on social media and it has been so lovely to see people stop and read them as they go out for their daily walks.

"We've also noticed staff pull out of the entrance and smile too as they drive off, it makes it all worthwhile!”

A spokeswoman from the hospital's children unit said: "The staff are loving these banners that you got on the front of your property.

"We also noticed your rainbow whilst we were doing ours on the wards windows."

Another member of staff said: "We walked past this yesterday on our daily walk round the block... they look awesome."
