FRONTLINE heroes from life-saving NHS workers to teachers and couriers have been celebrated in a new #ThereWithYou video by MPs from across Yorkshire.

They praise local newspaper key workers for providing "good, honest, scrupulous journalism" during the pandemic.

It follows a Yorkshire Post approach to all MPs in the region to send messages of support to key workers, including those in the news industry.

"I would encourage everyone who can to keep supporting their newspaper, particularly their local publications.”

They pay tribute to the work of health and social care workers as well as refuge collectors, postal workers, shop workers and every key worker who is keeping the country on its feet during the coronavirus pandemic.

The MPs singled out journalists who have been working throughout this crisis to keep the nation informed and up to date as well as hold decision makers to account for key decisions that have life and death implications.

Print media, particularly local print media has been hit hard by the lockdown, as news vendors close and advertising revenue dries up due to the ongoing shutdown of local businesses.

In the video, the MPs highlight the importance of local fact checked journalism and that without it, we become reliant on online media that often does not have the same journalistic standards.
