Lowest Covid daily death toll increase since October as 10 deaths recorded in Yorkshire

Figures released by NHS England show 118 deaths were recorded in the country's hospitals in the 24 hours to 4pm on Friday (March 12), including 10 in Yorkshire and The Humber.

The deaths were between December 17 2020 and March 12 2021.

The time taken for positive results to be received is among the potential factors in a delay between a death happening and being recorded.

Since April 28 2020, NHS England and NHS Improvement also started to report the number of patient deaths where there has been no Covid-19 positive test result but it is documented as a direct or underlying cause of death in the death certification process.

The figures for the latest reporting period show there were 35 such deaths in England.

A total of 8,595 people have died with the virus in Yorkshire according to statistics.

Deaths were recorded at the following hospital trusts in Yorkshire and the Humber:

Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust: 1

Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust: 6

Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust: 2

Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust: 1

According to Government data, a total of 10,655 patients across all hospital trusts and community settings in Yorkshire and the Humber have died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 up to March 4.

This equates to 193.6 deaths per 100,000 people since the pandemic began.

Separate Office for National Statistics data, updated weekly, shows there have been a total of 12,068 deaths recorded in Yorkshire and The Humber where the death certificate mentioned Covid-19 as one of the causes.

This equates to 219.3 deaths per 100,000 people since the pandemic began.
