Scarborough is once again Covid-19 hotspot with 81 per cent of county's fines given for illegal indoor gatherings

The North Yorkshire force handed out 48 fines for illegal indoor gatherings across the county in the week up to April 11, with 39 of them (81 per cent) to people in the seaside town.

Chief Inspector Charlotte Bloxham told a meeting of the North Yorkshire Local Resilience Forum this morning that no Fixed Penalty Notices had been issued since the further easing of restrictions on Monday.

She also urged people stuck to the rules in order to ensure that the road out of lockdown was not blocked.

Chief Insp Bloxham said: “The easing of lockdown is very much welcome and our policing teams will continue to play that part alongside our community partners to keep people safe as we move towards a more normal way of living.

“We can reach this goal by working together, as we have said before, we have got to keep this effort going until the pandemic is under control.

“We are heading in the right direction but we are not there yet.”

Ryedale and Hambleton had seven and two fines handed out respectively for illegal gatherings last week.
