The Yorkshire Covid infection rate hotspots as North Yorkshire sees big jump in cases

This is the weekly Covid-19 infection rate of every local authority area in Yorkshire.

York has the highest infection rate in Yorkshire at 573.6 cases per 100,00 people. Other areas in North Yorkshire which were in Tier 2 for most of December before entering Tier 3 just before the national lockdown also have some of the highest rates across Yorkshire.

The latest figures, for the seven days to January 3, are based on tests carried out in laboratories (pillar one of the Government’s testing programme) and in the wider community (pillar two). The rate is expressed as the number of new cases per 100,000 people. Data for the most recent four days (January 4-7) has been excluded as it is incomplete and does not reflect the true number of cases. Of the 315 local areas in England, 309 (98%) have seen a rise in case rates and six (2%) have seen a fall. Images are for illustrative purposes only.
