York has the highest infection rate in Yorkshire at 573.6 cases per 100,00 people. Other areas in North Yorkshire which were in Tier 2 for most of December before entering Tier 3 just before the national lockdown also have some of the highest rates across Yorkshire.
The latest figures, for the seven days to January 3, are based on tests carried out in laboratories (pillar one of the Government’s testing programme) and in the wider community (pillar two). The rate is expressed as the number of new cases per 100,000 people. Data for the most recent four days (January 4-7) has been excluded as it is incomplete and does not reflect the true number of cases. York had a rate of 573.6 (1208 cases) in the seven days to January 3, up from 296.7 (625 cases) the previous week.
3. Richmondshire, North Yorkshire
Richmondshire had a rate of 474.6 (255 cases) in the seven days to January 3, up from 268.0 (144 cases) the previous week.
4. Craven, North Yorkshire
Craven had a rate of 465.5 (266 cases) in the seven days to January 3, up from 162.8 (93 cases) the previous week.
