Yorkshire hospitals record highest daily Covid death toll since June

A further 12 patients have died at hospital in Yorkshire after testing positive for Covid-19, NHS England has confirmed.

It's the highest daily rise in coronavirus deaths recorded in the region since June 26, when 13 new deaths were recorded.

NHS England releases updated figures each day showing the dates of every coronavirus-related death at hospitals in England, often including previously uncounted deaths that took place several days or even weeks ago.

Of the 12 new deaths recorded at Yorkshire hospitals on Wednesday, four patients died at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and three at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

One patient each died at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust, Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust and South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

It brings the total number of Covid-19 deaths recorded at hospitals in Yorkshire to 3,039.

A further 56 people who tested positive for coronavirus have died in hospital elsewhere in England, bringing the total number of confirmed deaths reported in hospitals to 30,662.

Patients were aged between 48 and 98 years old. All but four patients, aged between 65 and 93, had known underlying health conditions.

The deaths were between October 2 and October 13.

Eight other deaths were reported with no positive Covid-19 test result.
