Hospice appeal hits £1m fund milestone

A HOSPICE has announced it has raised the first £1m towards a target for its redevelopment.

The £2.5m Love you 2 Appeal aims to create new facilities at Dove House Hospice in Hull to enable more people to benefit from specialist care, respite care, enhanced services and treatments and help more relatives to stay overnight.

The re-development completed already has nearly doubled the size of the hospice creating a new respite unit, a community café and new family suites for families and carers.

Appeal chairman Paddy Hall said: “On behalf of the patients, families and carers at Dove House I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported the appeal.

“We expect the work will be finally completed in 2014.

“We have the shell of the development complete as our first step, and now must start thinking about the fitting out of the buildings.

“There is a vast array of equipment needed to make our patients as comfortable as possible and this is our next focus”.

As part of the fund-raising, local businesses were asked to adopt the appeal as their charity of the year.

Dove House Hospice’s acting director of income development, Sarah Cusick, said: “We are indebted to the people of Hull and the East Riding for their support of our campaign to extend the hospice so far.

“Every single pound of the £1m we have raised has been donated by individuals, local businesses, organisations, charitable trusts, schools and community groups, and we feel tremendously honoured to have them all behind us.”

Appeal manager Pauline Speed said: “It is a fantastic achievement to have reached the £1m milestone and this reflects all the hard work and effort that everyone has put in.”
