Although the restaurants, the Michelin-starred Black Swan at Oldstead and Roots in York, are to close Mr Banks said that they would continue to grow vegetables on the family farm and "will be back open as soon as we can to welcome you all back to our restaurants."

"This has been a tough week for everyone. I would like to say a massive thank you to our team who have been so kind and supportive. We will come back better than before. There are worst places to be isolated than a farm growing veg. Be safe and be kind and we will see you soon

"Now is a time to look our for one another and to be safe. Through kindness we will get through this together and come back stronger."

He said they would get in touch with anyone who had a booking at either restaurants.
