Castle Howard and York Minster make Lonely Planet's list of world's best travel experiences
York Minster and the Castle Howard estate are among 34 British entries to be featured in the second edition of the Ultimate Travel List - more than any other country.
'Experiences' must be thrilling, memorable and interesting - with the global winner being Petra in Jordan.

Hide AdThis year there are over 200 new entries, including places relevant to the era of Covid-safe travel and other destinations that have 'upped their game'. Sustainable tourism is another of the key criteria.
Many of the recommendations are outdoor or wildlife experiences with plenty of open space. Castle Howard has extensive grounds, including adventure play areas and an arboretum, while York Minster is also large enough for social distancing.
Also included were the Lake District, St Paul's Cathedral, the British Museum, Scotland's Northeast 250 route, the Wales Coast Path, Christ Church, Oxford, Giant's Causeway, the Tate Modern, the Jurassic Coast, the Natural History Museum, the Brecon Beacons, Hadrian's Wall, Snowdonia, Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railway, the V&A Museum, Dundee's waterfront, the West Highland Way, Stirling Castle, Glencoe, Royal Albert Dock in Liverpool, Seven Sisters, St David's Cathedral, Loch Lomond, Titanic Belfast, Stonehenge, St Fagans National History Museum, Skara Brae, the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, the Roman baths in Bath, the Tower of London and Portmeirion.
