Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal in Yorkshire so busy that cars are being turned away by the National Trust and Bank Holiday visitors advised to arrive on foot or by bus

The National Trust has been turning cars away from Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal on the New Year’s Bank Holiday due to a huge influx of visitors.

Groups wishing to enter the grounds near Ripon – a UNESCO World Heritage Site – on Monday have been advised instead to arrive on foot or by public transport.

The National Trust said: “We’re sorry but our car parks are now full and we won’t be able to welcome any more visitors today. Please don’t travel as you will likely be turned away at the gate.”

Several other National Trust properties and sites in the north have reported similar issues on the Bank Holiday.
