The North York Moors Railways is calling on amateur photographers from Yorkshire and beyond to submit their best photographs of the iconic railway.

The heritage railway is launching its annual photography competition and wants the help of readers of The Yorkshire Post.

Last year, more than 350 entries were submitted by snappers which were whittled down to the best 12 by judges, before you helped decide which image should adorn the front of the calendar.

Some of the winning images last year included Levisham Station, volunteers chatting outside Goathland Station, and the famous North York Moors heather with a steam train in the foreground.

All the proceeds from the calendar go towards the crisis appeal NYMR launched in the face of the coronavirus pandemic.

Chris Price, general manager at NYMR, said: "The NYMR was first formed in 1967, and as the UK’s favourite heritage railway has played a vital role in providing an authentic evocation of the steam age for everyone to enjoy, helping preserve the past and protect the legacy of steam travel for future generations.

"Our iconic steam, and diesel engines, coupled with our picturesque stations and historic railway lines provide a real photographer's paradise, and it's no wonder that people want to photograph it.

"We get tagged in dozens of beautiful images each and every day on social media, so what better way to showcase some of these glorious shots, helping capture another year of steam travel's history and raising funds for our ongoing crisis appeal, than by creating our iconic calendar for another year. "
