However, we took to Facebook to ask our readers which landmark was their favourite.
While John Tomlinson joked: "North Yorkshire sign on leaving the A1 when travelling up from the south always give it a toot as I pass, it gladden my heart to be home in my native county", others opted for more traditional Yorkshire favourites.
Here are the eight of the best landmarks as voted for by our readers.

5. Bolton Castle
Phillippa Naylor said Bolton Castle was her number one landmark. The 14th-century castle is located in Wensleydale and was built by Richard, 1st Baron Scrope of Bolton. 6. Richmond Castle
Another castle to make the list is Richmond Castle, nominated by Brenden Thomas. Now looked after by English Heritage, the castle was constructed by Alan Rufus from 1071 onwards following the Norman Conquest of England. 7. Brimham Rocks
Brimham Rocks was chosen by reader Richard Dunnett. the site of special scientific interest is very popular with walkers who want to stretch their legs and marvel at the water- and weather-eroded rocks. 8. The Shambles
Lastly is the iconic Shambles in York, which was chosen by Mary Catherine Todd. The street is one of the most historic in York and is a huge tourist attraction. It is now home to shops, restaurants and some snickelways leading off the street. Picture taken by James Hardisty.
